Update: On December 19, 2022, nearly 200 countries agreed to protect 30% of the planet by 2030 at COP 15 - the largest agreement to date.

Urge world leaders to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.

More than 70% of our planet is covered in water, and yet less than 2% of the ocean is fully protected.

This year, global leaders from 196 countries will meet in Canada at the Convention on Biological Diversity to decide on the future for our ocean and planet. This is our chance to demand they take decisive action to revive and protect our most beloved marine ecosystems, and work to save our climate. We must make world leaders face the reality of our planet’s vanishing wildlife and finally step up to committing to protect 30% of our land and seas by 2030.

Only One is joining forces with PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and SeaLegacy to ask all of you to lend your signatures and voices to demand protection of 30% of the ocean by 2030.

The ocean is in trouble. In our lifetimes we have witnessed corals bleached to their skeletal remains, pulled fistfuls of trash from the reefs, and have watched our planet’s most critical marine habitats wither away. Many of us have experienced first-hand the destruction to the beaches and underwater playgrounds we have enjoyed since childhood. But we have the power to reverse the ocean’s accelerating decline by speaking up and demanding the future we want.

And for the first time in history, we have the chance to change the narrative of our seas – and give back to the ocean that supports all life on our planet.

At this year's critical meeting, world leaders will be negotiating details on a plan to protect and replenish the world’s most threatened habitats over the next decade. The benefits of protecting 30% of the world’s ocean are monumental. A well-connected system of highly protected areas will provide sanctuary for disappearing marine species, protect the cultural heritage and provide livelihoods for millions of inhabitants of coastal communities as well as increasing the ocean’s resilience against climate change.

Add your voice and urge world leaders to commit to protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030.
