We need countries to be 100% behind tackling the plastics crisis, and this week, it was Canada that stepped up. Starting in December, the Canadian federal government will outlaw the manufacture and import of six popular types of single-use plastic items, including bags, straws, and take-out containers. We expect Canada and other nations to continue taking significant steps to curb plastic pollution in order to be compliant with international law down the road. Earlier this year, United Nations delegations from more than 170 countries voted to adopt a historic, legally binding global plastics treaty by 2024. The measures contained in the treaty will influence plastics policy across the entire globe, hopefully for the better — that’s why showing our support for a strong treaty right now is so important. If you have a minute, we hope you’ll sign and share the petition calling for a strong global plastics treaty and help us reach 75,000 signatures ✊
