This map was created by Only One using ©Mapbox and ©Openstreetmap, based on the findings of a report published by Marine Conservation Society, Seas At Risk, and Oceana. The data contained in the map was obtained from Global Fishing Watch. Seas At Risk and Oceana co-lead the project "Marine protected areas - From paper parks to effective protection," bringing together NGOs from across the EU to fight for marine areas that are protected in practice, not just on paper. The project focuses on marine protected areas (MPAs) in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. In collaboration with Only One, they are campaigning to increase pressure on EU and national decision-makers to ban bottom trawling in EU MPAs. The project is conducted in partnership with national organizations Irish Wildlife Trust, Oceana in Europe, Sciaena, and advisory partners ClientEarth, and the Marine Conservation Society.
Oceana is the largest international advocacy and science-based organisation focused solely on ocean conservation. In Europe, Oceana does policy work to enact ambitious laws for the marine environment.
europe.oceana.orgSeas At Risk is an association of environmental organisations from across Europe, promoting policies to ensure our ocean is abundant, diverse, climate-resilient, and not threatened by human activity.
