Call on Prime Minister Minnis to Stop Offshore Oil Drilling in The Bahamas

I stand with young Bahamian leaders and urge Prime Minister Minnis to stop offshore oil drilling in The Bahamas.

The Bahamas is an ocean nation, with remarkable marine resources and wildlife that have supported local industry and brought visitors from around the world.

But a new oil drilling project could change that. And it’s starting in a matter of months. Just one accident, one spill, can devastate marine systems in the region and the foundation of the economy, employment, food sources, recreation, culture, and the Bahamian way of life.

Local fishermen, tourism operators, and environmental leaders oppose the plan. Not only could a spill wreck marine habitats and the Bahamian economy, but it could also reach the United States, wreaking havoc on shorelines in both countries and tying The Bahamas up in a costly cleanup.

“We refuse to stand by while our islands are endangered. We are not an oil nation. We are an ocean nation. It’s our past, our present, and our future.”

An incredible group of young Bahamian leaders have called on their Prime Minister to stop this risky exploration project, and they need the support of the international community to help amplify their efforts. Join them and add your name to the petition urging Prime Minister Minnis to stop oil drilling in The Bahamas.
