Rowing 5,000 Miles for Ocean Innovation
The United World Challenge for Only One is a collaboration with Only One, Ocean Impact Organisation, and Ocean Hub Africa to accelerate their work to preserve, conserve and restore ocean ecosystems worldwide.

The United World Challenge for Only One
Hi! I’m Tez Steinberg, solo ocean rower and founder of the United World Challenge.
When the world locked down in summer 2020, I climbed in a 23-foot rowboat and began rowing out to sea. After 71 days alone on the Pacific, I became the first person ever to row to Hawaii with no prior ocean or rowing experience.
The mission was a genuine success: we raised over $150,000 in public donations, including $77,000 for scholarships for international peace; funded the collection of nearly 200,000 ocean-bound plastic containers; and piloted new microplastic research with Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
But when I reached Hawaii, I felt like I had just scratched the ocean’s surface. There’s so much more to discover, and so many threats the oceans face.
That’s why I’m launching the United World Challenge for Only One: a world-first, 5,000-mile nonstop solo row from Hawaii to Australia beginning November 2022 to inspire a more courageous world and raise funds and action to accelerate solutions for ocean innovation.

Rowing 5,000 Miles for Ocean Innovation
The United World Challenge is about to begin Expedition 2: Rowing 5,000 miles nonstop from Hawaii to Australia this December to raise funds and action to accelerate solutions for ocean innovation. Together with Only One, Ocean Impact Organisation, and Ocean Hub Africa, we’re on a mission to preserve, conserve and restore ocean ecosystems worldwide.
Only One will receive 65% of donations to support grassroots, frontline conservation projects such as mangrove forest restoration, coral planting, and plastic removal. Ocean Hub Africa and Ocean Impact Organisation - two of the world’s leading ocean startup competitions - will each receive 10% of donations, which they will award to promising ocean startups to help scale their blue solutions. 15% of donations help fund the United World Challenge donation campaign, multiplying your impact by helping us raise even more donations for impact.
