Young bluespotted ribbontail rays spend much of their time in the warm, shallow coastal waters that lap around the roots of mangrove trees. Here, they can find shelter from predators and comb the sandy bottom to find small molluscs and crustaceans to feed on. Protecting and planting underwater mangrove forests is not only a powerful way to fight the climate crisis and remove more carbon from the atmosphere, it also restores vital habitats for vulnerable marine creatures like these rays.
