This enchanting mushroom-like soft coral is known as a Toadstool coral, a hardy leather octocoral recognisable by their likeness to fungi and with a peaceful disposition on the reef. They are relatively fast-growing corals, with their caps becoming ruffled and folded as they age and mature (the coral we see today is still young!), occasionally developing a waxy slick coating to remove unwanted algae or debris π
