Photo of the day

Isn’t a mangrove forest beautiful seen from below? The ocean’s trees are humming with life, from the very tops of their leafy canopies to their complex root systems burrowing into the seafloor, and they support not tens, not hundreds, but thousands of plant and animal species. In fact, mangroves are one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the entire world, either on land or underwater. In the center of today’s photo is a frigatebird belonging to a family of seabirds (called Fregatidae) which inhabit tropical and subtropical coastal areas — the same as mangrove trees! Birds make the most of the rich waters around mangroves by nesting and foraging.
