Found meandering through shallow seagrass meadows or settled in sandy seafloors, the eastern fiddler ray (also known as a “guitarfish”) is recognizable for its unique shape and form falling somewhere in between a shark and a ray. As one part of the carbon-sequestering seagrass ecosystem, fiddler rays help to monitor and maintain the seafloor, which is estimated to store 10% of the total organic carbon sequestered in the ocean 🌱
