If we dive 20,000 feet below the ocean surface to the dim, icy waters of the deep seabed, we might find ourselves face to face with the illusive cold-water corals, a dynamic ocean garden that survives despite the deep-sea darkness. Whilst shallow-water reefs generate their energy through photosynthesis, deep-sea corals obtain nutrients by trapping organisms through the gentle passing cold currents, meaning they can be found across the world, even in Antarctica!
