As well as being a remarkable carbon sequestration resource, seagrass provides a nutritious diet for manatees, or “sea cows,” the 10-foot long aquatic mammals found swimming glibly around shallow mangrove waters and grazing on seagrass meadows. Sea cows support seagrass ecosystems through fertilization and vegetation management, helping maintain a vital resource that sequesters approximately 10% of the carbon buried in the ocean, despite making up less than 0.2% of the ocean floor! 🌱🐮
