“It doesn’t matter how young you are, where you are from or what color you are. This is your world. This is your future. You deserve a seat at the table in making decisions that impact you.” These are the words of Kristal Ambrose, a Bahamian marine and environmental scientist. After sailing across the Pacific Ocean to study an oceanic garbage patch, she returned home to inspire the government and local communities to move toward a plastic-free Bahamas, creating a nonprofit organization called Bahamas Plastic Movement. Through her unique, joyful approach to education and activism, Ambrose connects Bahamian youth to the ocean and empowers them to use their voice to protect the natural environment. Ambrose was instrumental in convincing the Bahamian government to ban single-use plastics from 2020!
