Seagrass meadows are known for being “ecosystem engineers” — not least for their stabilizing root network, but also for being a highly efficient carbon-hungry resource. Despite covering only around 0.1% of the ocean floor, these underwater gardens account for more than 10% of the ocean’s global carbon storage, generating vast amounts of oxygen every day, and absorbing carbon up to 35 times faster than terrestrial forests! 🌱🌊
