The yellow fiddler crab we see today is a mangrove local, found scuttling in and around root networks and sifting through salty sediment for their next meal. Fiddler crabs inherit their name from their unique way of communicating and courting. Waving and gesturing an oversized claw known as a chela, the crabs look as if they’re playing the fiddle, a fascinating habit earning them a curious reputation in the mangrove ecosystem 🦀
