Have you spotted the fish swimming past this red mangrove rooted in the soil near Staniel Cay in The Bahamas? 🐠 Mangrove trees grow in the coastal waters of five different continents, thriving in salty, oxygen-poor conditions that are too harsh for most other plant life. It’s thought that in the past more than 60% of the world’s shorelines were lined with mangroves. In recent decades, many of these astounding trees have been lost because of deforestation and extreme weather events linked to climate change, but mangrove planting and restoration initiatives bring us hope.
