Palau, a nation with approximately 340 stunning islands, is the current record holder for the country with the highest amount of marine protection. An incredible 78% of Palauian waters are fully or highly protected 🏝 💙 Fusing tradition with innovation, Palau has become a guiding light for saving ocean life, but there’s a lot of work to be done elsewhere in the world. The ocean covers over 70% of our planet, and yet less than 2% is fully protected. In advance of global leaders from 196 countries meeting in China at the Convention on Biological Diversity later this year, we launched a campaign in partnership with SeaLegacy and PADI® to demand they face the reality of our planet’s vanishing wildlife and finally commit to protecting 30% of our lands and waters by 2030. We’ve already gathered more than 25,000 signatures, so let’s be inspired by Palau and raise our voices to save our seas!
