Scientists are rapidly discovering more about the ocean, in part thanks to an unsuspecting and rather large marine creature: the elephant seal. In researching their habitats (and habit of sleeping just two hours a night, 1,000 feet under), we’re learning more about the depths of their dives, and gathering data on sea ice formation, deep ocean currents, and the global movement and storage of ocean-captured carbon 💤🦭
