Photo of the day

The protruding vertical tree roots in our photo today belong to a certain species of Avicennia mangrove tree, reaching up out of the earth from underground root systems to “breathe” and help optimize plant respiration. Known as pencil or peg roots, these pneumatophores can reach a mighty three meters tall, though most will be less than 50 centimeters — somewhere a little more down to Earth! 🌱✏️
