Welcome to Shark Week 2022 🩈 In honor of this week-long summer spectacle on Discovery, today we’re featuring the great white shark. A proportion of great whites live along the Northern California coast from September to February, and in the interim, they travel 1,500 miles en masse to a remote location halfway between Hawaii and Baja California. Here, in what is commonly called the “White Shark CafĂ©,” the sharks “hang out” and dive to depths of about 1,000 feet every ten minutes, gorging on light-sensitive animals such as squid, phytoplankton, and small fish. The White Shark CafĂ© is found in the “High Seas” — the international waters that lie outside of any country’s jurisdiction and cover over 60% of the ocean. Right now, a mere 1% of the High Seas is protected, which is why Only One is hosting the campaign to change this. It’s our chance to help protect marine biodiversity in the High Seas and halt the collapse of the entire ocean, and an incredible 60,000 people have already added their names to the petition 🙌
