From enthralling mangrove tree lagoons to the bluest of underwater caves, the ocean is full of wonders and secrets. One of its most vital qualities is its ability to stabilize our climate: the ocean is incredibly effective at absorbing carbon dioxide and heat. As a result, over the last 50 years, our seas have taken in more than 90% of excess heat caused by human activity globally and around a quarter of carbon emissions. It’s true the ocean is in trouble. Yet rather than thinking of the ocean as just a victim, we need to recognize what extraordinary powers it holds to help solve climate change 🌊 Climate solutions anchored in the ocean could solve a fifth of the climate crisis by 2050, and our marine ecosystems will continue to sustain life in so many other ways if we let them — which is why we’re so glad you’re here with us as part of this community championing a positive ocean future!
