Have you heard of the mola mola? This extraordinarily shaped creature, also called the ocean sunfish, is one of the two heaviest documented bony fish in the world. Mola molas spend most of their time in what’s known as the “pelagic zone,” meaning they are found in the open ocean rather than near coastlines. The open ocean, or the High Seas, lies outside of any country’s jurisdiction and covers more than 60% of the ocean. Yet only 1.2% of the High Seas is legally protected, despite their massive importance to marine life. If you’d like to take another action for the planet today, you can use your voice to advocate for pelagic animals like the mola mola by urging your government to protect the High Seas. Our petition has nearly 60,000 signatures, so signing or sharing the petition will make a real difference ❤️
