Photo of the day

Mangroves are unique trees, not least for their unusual reproduction cycle known as “vivipary,” a word with Latin origins that translate to “live birth.” Unlike most plants, once mangrove flowers have been pollinated, they produce seeds that immediately germinate into “propagules,” the distinctive drop-live seedlings we see in our photo today. After falling from the tree, the propagules are swept away by the tide to eventually sink and settle, ready to grow into the resilient ocean tree forests we admire today 🌱
