An array of majestic sharks call New Zealand home, including the mako. Our campaign to save the country’s shark populations is underway. We’re calling for mandatory monitoring aboard all commercial fishing vessels, to reduce accidental catch of threatened and endangered sharks to 0%, and to require that sharks are released with as little harm as possible. The technology to achieve this is readily available, and many fisherfolk have already taken steps to eliminate accidental catch and improve accountability.
