The Coral Triangle is known as the epicenter of global marine biodiversity, accounting for the 6 million square kilometers of abundant reefs beneath the blue seas of 6 countries in the Asia-Pacific region: Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste. Today we celebrate these remarkable ecosystems for World Coral Triangle Day, which are thought to be the historical point of origin for many of the coral species found on Earth!
