Algae is a fantastic resource, sharing a mutual relationship with coral known as “symbiont shuffling,” keeping our reefs healthy, energized, and colorful through photosynthesis. Following 40 years of research on and observation of a reef in Panama, scientists believe that a select few corals are sharing a home with a species of unusually heat-tolerant algae called Durusdinium glynni, presenting a hopeful case for further reef research and protection.
