The naturally stunning 11-mile stretch along the west bank of St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, running the course of the Mississippi River, was recently named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s 11 most endangered places due to the proposed influx of toxic industry, and is home to many descendents of enslaved people from the nearby Whitney and Evergreen plantations. In partnership with the Descendents Project and the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, we are urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to respect the history and culture of this region by denying the Greenfield Terminal permit for what would be one of the world’s largest grain elevators.
