Our photo today shows a mangrove coastline in Australia, a vast country boasting just 900,000 hectares of mangrove trees on a relatively small scale, given that they make up just 0.6% of Australia’s native forests. However, this mangrove cover is small but mighty! Ocean forests do a fantastic job of sequestering and storing carbon through photosynthesis, with each tree capturing an estimated 0.3 tons of carbon over its growth lifetime — the equivalent of flying once from London to Monaco!
