Sea otters have the ability to help underwater kelp forests capture and store a vast amount of carbon, a discovery bringing these fluffy creatures to nautical notoriety, and not just for their playful and endearing characteristics. By feeding on the sea urchins that feast on kelp roots, researchers have found that the presence of sea otters protecting kelp forests almost doubles kelp carbon storage, equivalent to taking an astounding three to six million passenger cars off the road! 🌞 🦦
