Ocean and innovation go hand in hand, with new and inventive ways of combating plastic pollution increasingly making their way into the mainstream. Netherlands-based organization the Great Bubble Barrier has made waves in the plastic prevention effort, helping to intercept waste before it reaches the ocean with an unobtrusive perforated tube placed at the bottom of rivers, canals, and waterways. The angled stream of air generates a fish-friendly “curtain” of rising bubbles, both suspending plastics to the water’s surface, and reducing the sound of ship traffic in the marine environment 🐟
