Our ocean and its host of inhabitants do a fantastic job of absorbing carbon from our atmosphere, with microscopic plants called phytoplankton and algae soaking up our sun’s golden rays to photosynthesize, in turn generating roughly half the oxygen that humans breathe. As the sun goes down, sea creatures rise up to feed on these carbon rich aquatic plants, consuming a measure of carbon that subsequently sinks to the seabed as feces, forming what researchers call “marine snow” 🌞 ❄
