Photo of the day

Did you know that Proboscis “mangrove” monkeys in today’s photo have webbed feet to wade through the soft mangrove mud? This isn’t the only unusual feature of these Simians — native to the rich mangrove forests of Borneo in Southeast Asia, the Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) are part of the “Odd-Nosed Colobines” genus, inheriting their curious name from their distinctive plum-like noses that can reach an impressive 17.5 centimeters long! The illusive mangrove monkeys communicate across the marshy mangrove forests with a variety of vocalizations, and can be heard “honking” from treetops to tides across all three nations of Borneo 🐒 👃
