Massive starlet corals (Siderastrea siderea) are a slow-growing species that prefers the clear water of protected reefs, making themselves at home in the Caribbean Sea, the sunny coast of Florida, and the northern Gulf of Mexico. Low-lying and dome-like, they can be found at depths of up to 40 meters, but more frequently rest less than ten meters below the waterline, feasting on zooplankton at night to nourish their dimpled, stony surface.
