Whilst our jungles and terrestrial forests play a vital role in regulating the global climate, studies found that between 1994 and 2007, our ocean absorbed a monumental 34 gigatons of carbon through coral, vegetation, and algae like in today’s photo. These luscious, green aquatic plants “sequester” carbon in a similar way to trees, absorbing it while at the same time returning oxygen to the water, with more algae blooming as a by-product. Green algae is famously fast-growing and covers our seabeds with a carbon-capture–ready resource even more effective than terrestrial plants, “fixing” carbon dioxide up to 50 times more 💧 🌎
