On average, there are 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in every square mile of ocean, taking a devastating 500 to 1,000 years to degrade and making up 80% of all marine debris. Beach cleanups not only help to remove litter and debris from our shores, but combing the coast also adds to a growing body of knowledge about where plastic has traveled from, tracking potential leakages from poor waste management, or investigating the clues that sea vessels leave. As well as funding on-the-ground plastics removal, the Only One community is rallying to influence policymakers and leaders across the globe to tackle the plastics crisis, with our petition fast approaching 75,000 signatures.
