Which green trees are planted firmly in the deep blue? The answer is… Mangroves! Spanning extensive stretches of shore across the equatorial belt, mangroves cluster on the perimeter of tropical and subtropical coastlines. A marshy meeting of land and water, these dense tangles of ocean trees grow in the wetlands of five different continents and offer a canny solution to the climate crisis. Their remarkable aptitude for absorbing and storing carbon is estimated to reach around 6.4 billion tons — about 4.5 times the United States’ annual carbon emissions. This makes planting and restoring mangrove forests a brilliant way to reverse climate change. It’s been three months since the next wave of Only One launched, and since then, you and your fellow members have been doing an amazing job of supporting our partner organizations’ planting and restoration efforts on the ground. In fact, we’re thrilled to announce a key milestone this week: together, we’ve now planted half a million mangrove trees for the planet 💚🌱
