All ecosystems in the ocean are interconnected in the most amazing ways. Mangrove forests and coral reefs, for example, are designed to live in harmony and work together to enhance tropical and subtropical coastal areas. Reef health and cover is heavily reliant on mangrove trees, which stabilize shorelines, remove pollutants, improve water quality, and maintain fisheries by providing habitat to young marine creatures. We’re all connected to mangrove forests in turn, in the fight against climate change: the ocean absorbs and stores vast quantities of carbon dioxide, helping fix the climate, so the protection of its ecosystems is absolutely critical.
