The Ḵwiḵwa̱sut’inux̱w Ha̱xwa’mis First Nation, whose territory lies just north of Vancouver, has declared a new 40,000-hectare protected area on B.C.’s remote mid-coast, restoring their right to Indigenous-led land stewardship.
