For marine biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, standing up for the ocean is a calling. Her willingness to raise her hand and use her voice for the ocean comes from the belief that if we work strategically, collectively, and quickly, the ocean can rebound in a magical way.

For surfer, chemist, and journalist Dr. Cliff Kapono, words and statistics fail to describe how much the ocean means to him. It is bigger than his culture, greater than his profession. Plainly put, nature has given him everything and he needs the ocean to survive.
