Act for Antarctica

Antarctica and the Southern Ocean seem so far away that they are like an entirely different planet. Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, they are at the very center of most vital Earth systems. The health of our global ocean, the stability of our global climate, and our own civilization depend on Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Now, facing rapid, extreme change to our global life-support system, we must act together to protect Antarctica and ourselves. Here are some of the things we can do together:

01 Act for Marine Protected Areas in Antarctica

Marine Protected Areas in the Southern Ocean give vulnerable Antarctic creatures the best chance of surviving climate change, because they remove other pressures, like krill fishing.

02 Act to protect species of the Southern Ocean

Krill is the key to the Antarctic ecosystem. Krill fishing endangers already vulnerable ecosystems. It is imperative that we end exploitation of the Southern Ocean. Learn more in the latest report from Our Antarctica.

Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy

This project supports the creation of the first generation of ecologically significant, large, and effective marine protected areas around the world — conserving areas that marine life rely on for breeding and migration, and helping communities strengthen connections to the ecosystems they depend on.
