Government decision imminent on Canada’s commercial capelin fishery

Trevor Jones

Just a few weeks ago, Only One and Oceana Canada launched a sprint campaign to close Newfoundland and Labrador’s commercial fishery of capelin, a critically important species of forage fish. Nearly 18,000 of you have already rallied and signed our petition. Without protection, capelin populations — which are vital to Atlantic ecosystems, humpback whales, and coastal communities — will fail to recover.

We are expecting an imminent statement from the Minister of Fisheries on whether the government will close the fishery, and we need as much public noise as possible in advance of the decision. Can you help us reach 20K signatures? Add your name and share the petition with your family and friends to join the movement.
