Niue, an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, has announced it will protect 100% of its waters, including one of the largest coral atolls in the world, an area with an astonishingly high density of gray reef sharks, and a key migratory pathway for humpback whales. The protections will help save Niue’s fragile reefs from illegal fishing and provide an important buffer against warming ocean temperatures, coral bleaching, and extreme weather events. We are so excited by this progress, and we encourage you to continue sharing our petition to protect 30% of the global ocean by 2030 so that we can hit our goal of 50K signatures!
